FAQ

Backup power, answered.

Straight answers on generators, fuel, cost, permits, solar and batteries for Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

Getting started

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. The on-site assessment, load review and written estimate are free and come with no obligation.

What areas do you serve?

Nashville and communities across Middle Tennessee, including Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet and more. See the service areas page for the full list.

Do you work on homes and businesses?

Both. We install home standby generators, commercial and industrial emergency power, solar and battery systems.

Do I need to know which brand I want?

No. Our Brand Matchmaker and a short consultation narrow it down based on your loads, budget and priorities.

Choosing a generator

What size generator do I need?

It depends on your loads, especially air conditioning, a well pump and an electric range. Try the Generator Size Calculator, then we confirm on site.

Standby or portable?

A standby generator starts automatically and is the convenient whole-house answer. A portable is cheaper but manual and needs a safe connection. See our guide for a full comparison.

Which brands do you install?

Generac and KOHLER are our main focus, and we also work with Cummins, Caterpillar, Briggs & Stratton, Champion, Westinghouse and Honda.

Can a battery replace a generator?

For short outages and chosen circuits, often yes. For multi-day outages or heavy loads, a generator or hybrid system is typically more resilient.

Installation & permits

How long does installation take?

Permitting comes first. Once approved, many residential installs take one to a few days of on-site work, depending on gas, pad and electrical details.

Do I need a permit?

In most places, yes. Generator electrical and gas work are permitted and inspected. We pull the permits for you.

Where does the generator go?

Manufacturer and code clearances decide. We choose a location that is safe, quiet for neighbors and convenient for service.

Will I lose power during the install?

Usually only briefly while the transfer switch is tied in. We tell you the plan in advance.

Fuel & power

Natural gas or propane?

Natural gas is convenient if your line and meter support it. Propane works where gas is not available or capacity is limited. We check your supply and recommend.

How long can a generator run?

On natural gas it can run as long as supply continues. On propane, as long as the tank has fuel. Our runtime calculator gives a planning estimate.

Can it run my air conditioner?

Yes, when sized correctly. Starting surge is the key. The calculator and site visit account for it.

Solar & batteries

Will solar panels work in an outage?

Grid-tied solar alone shuts down during an outage for safety. A battery or generator provides backup power.

How much can solar save me?

It depends on usage, roof, shading and rates. Our estimator gives a planning range; your quote gives a real design.

Can I add a battery later?

Yes. We can design a battery-ready solar system so storage is easy to add.

Service & warranty

How often does a generator need service?

Most manufacturers recommend annual service. We offer maintenance plans for all major brands.

Do you repair generators you did not install?

In most cases yes. Call us with your brand and model.

What warranties apply?

Manufacturer warranties vary by brand and model, and we also stand behind our installation workmanship. We explain the terms before you buy.
